Economic recession impacts war on meth

IL - One of the toughest battles in the war on drugs is the one against methamphetamine. These days, the recession is making it harder for police to win this fight. From foreclosures to unemployment, this has been a record-breaking recession. But as the economy continues to cave, there's at one least one record Illinois didn't know it might break. The number of meth labs being seized is reaching new proportions. In the Pekin area, what was once called the 'meth capital' of the state, police have seen a 48 percent increase over the past year.

Utah trooper finds two pounds meth in hidden compartment

UT - During a traffic stop Wednesday afternoon, Utah Highway Patrol trooper, Lars Gardner located two pounds of methamphetamine in a hidden compartment in the vehicle. UHP Sgt. Jacob Hicks said Gardner stopped Berlein Mendez-Gutierrez, 20, for a window tint violation at mile marker 3 northbound on Interstate 15. “While doing the traffic stop Gardner had suspicions there were drugs in the vehicle and was able to obtain a verbal consent to search the car,” Hicks said.
