Border patrol officers seize cache of hard narcotics

CA - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers arrested a man Wednesday after they found a cache of hard narcotics hidden in the vehicle he was driving. Officers discovered more than 19 pounds of cocaine, 17 pounds of methamphetamine and almost 11 pounds of heroin with a street value of $551,540 in his vehicle after he entered the San Ysidro port of entry.

Drug busts net 27 pounds of meth, 4 arrests

CO - A mother and son and two brothers were arrested in a span of less than 24 hours in separate traffic stops at the same spot on Interstate 70 after authorities found a combined 27 pounds of suspected methamphetamine in their vehicles. Western Colorado Drug Task Force officers stopped the men in a vehicle eastbound on I-70 at mile marker 15 around 4:30 a.m. after noticing the vehicle’s license plate light wasn’t working, according to an arrest affidavit.

Police officer fired for using meth, suspected of stealing evidence

IA - A Pleasant Hill police officer suspected of stealing drugs from his department's evidence room has been fired. Sgt. Daniel Edwards, 42, was fired Friday, Pleasant Hill Police Chief Tim Sittig said. Edwards' dismissal came on the same day state law enforcement officials announced he faces additional charges of third-degree burglary and operating a vehicle while intoxicated. He was previously charged with misdemeanor drug possession after he crashed his police vehicle near U.S. Highway 65 and East University Avenue on April 1. State investigators confirmed Edwards was under the influence of methamphetamine at the time of the wreck.
