Coming soon: Mo. database targeting meth production

MO - Officials unveiled a new statewide database Tuesday that they hope will be a more advanced and effective tool in the state's battle against methamphetamine. Gov. Jay Nixon and local lawmakers,
pharmacists and law enforcement officials were at the announcement, touting the system developed
through a partnership between multiple agencies and private companies. It uses no taxpayer money.
The database will link Missouri's 1,300 pharmacies, tracking pseudoephedrine purchases using the
buyer's driver's license number. Pseudoephedrine -- a common ingredient in many cold medicines -- is a
key component in the manufacture of meth.

"Drug kingpin" from Biloxi sentenced to 60 years

MS - A Biloxi man, labeled drug kingpin by prosecutors, will spend 40 years in jail for selling ecstasy.  Thuan Van Tran, 21, struck a deal with author ties in Madison and Rankin Counties and pleaded guilty to two counts of selling ecstasy. Tran was sentenced to 60 years in jail, with 20 years of that sentence suspended. Madison and Rankin Counties' District Attorney Michael Guest said Tran sold thousands of doses of ecstasy and meth; moving large amounts of drugs into our state.

Shave, haircut and a bag of meth - 2 bits

IN - Four people are arrested at an Evansville barber shop on meth charges. Evansville police were called to the North Park barber Shop, located around the intersection of Campground and Stringtown roads. Police say they had received a tip that there were people coming in and out at strange hours. Four people were on the property when police showed up:  Teresa McGill, Harold Clem, Sherry Walker and Lanita Hulfachor. The owner, Teresa McGill told police they could look around.

Watchfull community brings down meth lab

FL - Complaints by neighbors about possible illegal activity in a home led to a meth lab bust Tuesday. The Columbia County Multi-Jurisdictional Task Force said it discovered the meth lab after serving a search warrant in the 11100 block of Southwest County Road 240 in Lake City about 5:45 p.m.
Detectives said they seized multiple items used in manufacturing methamphetamine.
